MONTROSE, Colo. — An all-female medical helicopter flight crew is making history as the first in the state.

Known as the “Babes With Blades,” the crew is based out of Montrose Memorial Hospital, and answer calls across the western portion of Colorado.

Flight paramedic Becky Sproul said like all other flight crews, the idea is to provide the best care for those they help.

“Our goal is to do a good job, to help patients when they are at their highest challenges, to make sure we do the best we can for the folks we serve,” she said in an interview with CBS 4.

Sproul also believes the crew provides something for younger girls to look up to as potential career ambitions.

“It’s inspiring for girls. It tells them, ‘If you want to do something, you just gotta put your head to it and work hard to get it and you will do it.’ It’s a long path, but it’s worth every minute of it,” she said.

In 2018, the crew answered more than 400 patient calls.
